I just bought a 3 month old Lutino Cockatiel today. And I noticed that he has a bald spot on top of his head. I heard that it is normal for there kind of breed. but I was wondering if anyone knows, if there is still a strong chance that the bird would still grow some more hair in that bald spot, since it is still a baby?Would a 3 month old Lutino Cockatiel start to grow hair on his bald patch behind the crest of his head?
Male, lutino cockatiels have bald heads where you described. It is genetically linked to what makes them lutinos and males. It won't grow in.Would a 3 month old Lutino Cockatiel start to grow hair on his bald patch behind the crest of his head?
It is a key characteristic of lutinos with the tiels as there was a lot of inbreeding when they were first available and you will notice that they are also smaller than your average tiel as well.
It can be bred out of them with a lot of out crossing to stronger blood lines, and I have previously had some very nice lutinoes that don't have the bald patch which is from this breeding process.
So as for it growing some feathers, no unfortunately not.
One thing to be careful of with your bird is to make sure he doesn't get too much direct sun as it can get sun burnt and also skin cancer.
im assuming by hair you mean feathers and on that note.. i have a cockatiel who did a lot of feather plucking back in his day due to certain sexual frustrations from not being able to get to his ';mate'; in the mirror. but anyway his feathers grew back fine so short of any real problem with the follicles where the pin feathers start to grow you're bird should grow in. give him time, he's still young
well not really , the chick will stay the same , will he /she might start to get some white stuff on their body . that won't come off , its ok thats where the feathers will start to grow so other then that its ok :D
