I had hyperthyroidism about 6 years ago I recieved a full thyroidectomy which means the removal of my thyroid gland. Every since i have had trouble growing my hair and keeping it healthy. I was wondering if anyone has experienced a similar situation and maybe had some suggestions for me. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks. How to grow hair with thyroid disease?
Hair problem is one of the most troubleing issue for hypothyroid patient (regadless why they are hypo, and unfortunately now you are hypo). I recommend you considering switching to Armour Thyroid or at least adding Cytomel to your T4 medicine. I think Armour would work better for hair at least I have new hair growing out all over and hair is growing faster too... Also, make sure your diet consist of good fats, plenty of full amino acids (you can also supplement this), good antioxidant multi vitamin and some mineral supplements. A vegetarian diet with lots of fresh fruits, veggies, some complex whole grain carbs and good organic lean protein can do wonders for hair and nail. If you are a meat eater, stick to fish and some seafood, rather than the rest... I wish you good luck! How to grow hair with thyroid disease?
I had a similar situation, but mine was hypothyroidism. It took me more than 4 years to get my TSH (it was 221 when they discovered it) regulated and my weight under control, so don't give up. I have also been in the salon business for almost 20 years. There's a product called Nioxin, and it's made for thinning hair. It comes in lots of different formulas so that you can choose exactly what's right for you. I recommend the cleanser, scalp therapy and scalp treatment. They have additional styling products but you can style with whatever you choose. I have been using this product for more than 10 years. My hair is in fabulous condition now and has been for quite some time, but I color and perm my hair so Nioxin helps keep it strong. It may take awhile depending on your situation, so give it at least 6 months and see if you notice a difference afer a few hair cuts. Be sure to keep getting your hair trimmed, too, it gets rid of the weak or damaged hair. Talk to your doctor about supplements also.
Good luck!!!
I have the same condition, but my thyroid hasn't been removed.. yet.. haha. If you aren't on synthroid, I suggest you start to even out your hormones %26amp; metabolism. Also, I reccomend taking prenatal pills, they have tons of vitamins and it will help make your hair healthier and stronger. (You don't have to be pregnant to take it) Stars like Gwenyth Paltrow swear by prenatal pills. hope this helps!
